Nothing beats playing golf in one of Kona’s finest golf courses, with a scenic backdrop!
So, you have travelled far to visit the land of Aloha. Why don’t you make the most out of it and spend a day at the Mauna Lani Resort’s South Course?
Whether you are a golf beginner, average or professional, this golfing ground is a must-try. It is maybe playable, but don’t put your guards down because it also features some challenges that truly test your skills. So, book your tee times now and bring your best game, plus your camera for those postcard-worthy snapshots!
The South Course is crafted through the lava fields, which you usually find in Big Island, with some trips to the coastline found in the signature 15th hole. Its wide fairways welcome bad shots that either end up out of the lava rock or in a neighbor’s backyard. Notice that distances between greens and tees in some spots make it impractical to walk, but the terrain is generous enough, making it easy to walk.
The highlight of this course is its quality of one-shotters found all over the resort with two directed on the ocean, and another playing over the water towards the Pacific Ocean. On the other hand, number 15 is the signature hole. Perhaps, it is safe to say that this is one of the most beautiful par threes in the world. Taking pictures here is a must, capturing the beautiful blue ocean with lava rock outcroppings in front, lined with scattered tropical palm trees.
If you love coffee, head over to the clubhouse and have a taste of one of the most expensive coffee in the world – the Kona coffee. It is perfectly paired with locally-sourced breakfast, including mouth-watering pastries and baked goodies. They also have pizzas, sandwiches, salads, plates of seafood, meat, chicken, and many more! Do you feel like drinking alcohol during the breathtaking sunset? You may order Island-style beverages and other alcoholic drinks such as wine and beer combined with pupus or appetizers.
