Koke’e State Park is an extension of Waimea Canyon and provides visitors with the deepest parts. The park contains all sorts of natural wonders, from ancient sea cliffs to rare endemic plants that only grow in this area. Another important spot for hikers to visit while trekking through Kauai is the Kalalau Lookout. The lookout is at the end of a scenic road running through the park and offers spectacular panoramic scenery that will leave you breathless. The Kokee Natural History Museum is the perfect stop for anyone interested in taking a trip to Waimea Canyon, Kokeʻi State Park, and Kauai. The museum has something for everyone: exhibits about weather patterns, geology, and botany on the islands. The Kōkeʻe Museum is the hub to plan your hike in a whole day and get suggestions on what trees, flowers, or animals you might see. They also provide information about how much time it will take for each trail as well as hazards that could happen out there.
Hiking in the Koke’e State Park can be done year-round, but the best time to visit is from May to October when temperatures are cool and rainfall is abundant. There are several hiking trails that take hikers to the Soda Creek Lookout and the Na Pali Lookout. The Na Pali Lookout offers great views of the ocean from the overlook of the lookout. At the Soda Creek lookout, one can see seagulls, sea horses, and pelicans.
There’s plenty to do at the Kokee State Park and within a couple of miles of it, you’ll find a great little waterfall called Waimea Canyon. Breathtaking scenery, a breathtaking sunset, and abundant wildlife can be found in and around the Waimea Canyon. While you’re here, plan on stopping at the first tee shop you pass and getting a cool souvenir to take home. It’s a win-win situation: you get to see the world, and they get a souvenir of their own to take back with them!
