With Big Island’s sunny and warm weather, everybody agrees it is a perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors while playing golf and getting a little bit of exercise.

Sometimes golf beginners are intimidated by well-maintained and world-class golf courses, thinking they’re only for professional golfers. If you are one of them, Kings’ Golf Course at the Waikoloa Beach Resort is exactly what you need.

The course caters to every level, which guarantees you a memorable round from the first tee to the 18th green. It is called a “player’s course” in the sense that low-handicappers can tee up from over 7,000 yards but still have all the length and strategy they can handle. On the other hand, mid and high-handicap players can choose a tee that will provide the same challenge and excitement at a length that fits their game.

Kings’ Course is a Scottish-links layout carefully crafted by designers Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf, with the latter’s philosophy in mind. “My courses do not intimidate,” he says. “Instead, they encourage the player to play well and become more open to the enjoyable aspects of the game.” In other words, they want to demand the best from you, whatever your skill is, but in a way that the course doesn’t over penalize your miss-hit shots.

One of Weiskopf’s trademarks is the drivable par-4, and you can find this in hole number 5 at Kings’ Course. As soon as you step foot at Kings’ Course, you will be welcomed with numerous lakes, lava outcroppings, and pot bunkers that add complexity and drama to your every round. You will be surrounded with the unimaginable natural beauty of the island, along with unending spectacular panoramas of the Pacific Ocean.

Mai Grille is the restaurant that serves guests at the Kings’ Course. They provide breakfast, brunch, lunch and keiki (children), and happy hour from 2 pm to 5 pm. They’re famous for their beef and ocean bounty. Their coffee-cured bacon is also a must-try. Other foods include frittatas with goat cheese and sourdough to Punalu’u Bakery sweet-bread French toast. Other restaurants nearby serve equally delicious foods, too. From chicken and salads to plates of seafood.
