Visit the ruins of a luakani heiau (sacrificial temple) overlooking the vast expanse of Maui. Observe the island’s geology, mythology, history and industry. Next, journey deep into Halemahina, Maui’s western volcano. Walk in her sunken caldera filled with tropical flowers, guava fruit and native fauna. View the ‘Iao Needle, a 1,200ft stone pillar once used as a watchtower in times of war. Touch the healing waters of Maui’s largest stream. Conclude with a visit to the Kepaniwai cultural heritage gardens featuring traditional homes, gardens and totems.

- Haleki’i & Pihana Heiau – ancient sacrificial temple
- Iao Valley – drive into the sunken caldera of our western volcano
- Iao Needle – natural basalt pillar that stands 1200 feet tall
- Iao Stream – Maui’s largest stream that features several pools to swim
- Kepaniwai Gardens – cultural gardens in tribute to the ethnicities that arrived to pioneer the plantation
- There are also several trails we can take if you wish – one to a sacred place of prayer and another to a lo’ifield (taro patch)
