Head out for a horseback adventure on a 400-acre working ranch.

Located near Turtle Bay on Oahu’s North Shore and near the base of the Ko’olau Mountain Ranch, Gunstock Ranch is home to some of the best horseback riding trails in Hawaii. The mountain trails feature occasional ocean views.

Sunset Ride

The Sunset Ride is a 90-minute guided and walking-only ride (no trotting or cantering). You’ll head out in the cooler portion of the day and enjoy the golden sunset light while on horseback. Ride along mountain trails with views of the ocean below. There will be a stop at a great lookout point which provides a spectacular view of the windward side of Oahu. You are also likely to see wild pigs, cattle and other horses on this ride.

This ride is suitable for riders of all skill levels, ages 7 and up. Offered at 4:30 pm (January to March), 5:30 pm (April to September) and 4:00 pm (October to December).

Sunset Dinner Ride

The Sunset Dinner Ride is the ultimate Paniolo (Hawaiian Cowboy) experience. Enjoy a 2.5 hour horseback adventure that includes a delicious dinner! This ride is a walking-only ride (no trotting or cantering), so it is suitable for the whole family, ages 7 and up. Heading out in the late afternoon, you and your horse will wind through mountain trails with sneak peaks of the ocean below. Bring your camera because there will be a stop at a lookout point from where you can see a good portion of the island’s windward coastline. Sit down to a warm and delicious dinner at a campfire (see menu below). Water and Hawaiian Sun fruit drinks will be served as well, and you can roast marshmallows over the campfire. After dinner, your wrangler will help get you mounted back on your horse, and you will ride back under the light of dusk. Offered at 4:00 pm (January to March), 5:00 pm (April to September) and 3:30 pm (October to December).

Dinner Menu:

  • Boneless Short Rib w/ Kalbi Sauce – Braised short rib, barbecued for a light searing and glazed in a cast iron pan with Kalbi sauce
  • Pan-Seared Chicken – Jidori-style, organically raised, free-range chicken is pan-seared, then baked with mirin-ginger beurre blanc
  • Island-Style Mac-Nut Mahi Mahi  – Mahi Mahi (island fish) crusted with basil and macadamia nuts, then baked until crispy and served with papaya salsa

All meals are served with salad, ulu mash (local mashed potatoes) and a Hawaiian Sun fruit drink and bottled water.
