Tour Description;
Join us on an amazing bicycle adventure of Kilauea Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Witness first hand the first eruption of the summit of Kilauea since 1982. During this exhilarating guided bicycle tour you will see the best highlights of the summit area while biking on paved roads and trails. Your exciting day begins at Jaggar Museum in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where you will get your first glance of the the incredible Summit Caldera eruption. Your expert Interpretive Guide will give you a tour orientation and an informative overview of the eruption history at the summit. We will explore the museum, see interpretive exhibits on Hawaiian volcanoes and the work of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
The next stop will be our biking starting point at the Kilauea Overlook, where you will you’ll be fitted for a Giant Sedona DX hybrid comfort mountain bike and safety equipment, and receive a safety briefing. Your Guide will then lead you on an off road trail along the rim of the Caldera to the Steam Vents, where you’ll literally feel the heat of the volcano. The adventure continues through the native Hawaiian rainforest section of the Summit. You will travel on a paved trail along the edge of the Summit Caldera on roads that partially collapsed in 1983 earthquake.
Our bike course then rejoins Crater Rim Drive where you will bike through a lush, ancient Hawaiian Fern Forest. Your next stop will be the Kilauea Iki Crater Overlook. Here you will see the cinder cone Pu’u Pua’i and an incredible view of this crater. Just a short distance away you will see our first pit crater on the course, Nahuku. This is where we will get a chance to hike through the famous Thurston Lava Tube. We will finish our course biking through the rainforest and cross the finish line at the devastating 1974 lava flow. Our Summit Tour Special is the perfect way to be introduced to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The short duration of this tour allows you ample time to explore other beautiful areas of the Big Island of Hawai’i.
Children (5 – 12 years old) – Tag Along Bicycles (typically fit children 5 to 8 years old, maximum weight = 85lbs) that attaches to the parent’s bike frame Medium (5’7″ or above). Parent’s must have the ability to ride with a tag along and keep up with the group. If the parent is unable to keep up with the group, the child will have to ride in the van. Children above the maximum tag along weight must have the ability to ride a 26″ wheel bike (the smallest frame size fits a 4’10” person)

8:40am or 10:40am Port of Hilo; Return 2pm or 4pm{Pick-up times can be adjusted to your ship’s docking time. We pick up passengers weekly from the Norwegian Cruise Ship on Tuesdays which works perfectly with the ship’s docking schedule}

Individual Cyclist height requirement: 4’10” and above {the smallest bike frame has 26″ wheels}
Cancellations are 100% refundable if we our notified BY PHONE before 48 hours of the tour date – with the exception of the high demand tour dates when a 2 week advanced notification is required (email cancellations are not accepted within 48 hours of the tour date). There is a 50% penalty charge (for cancellations within 48 hours of the tour date) and a 100% penalty charge (for cancellations within 24 hours of the tour date).

Please be advised that WE BIKE RAIN OR SHINE and the minimum number of participants required to operate our tours is a total of 6 participants (we can group you with other parties if you have less than 6 people in your group. We would like all requested tour dates to be “A GO”. To assist us with this process please check our tour calendar and if possible try to group your party on dates that we have existing reservations or please provide an alternative tour date). PLEASE CONTACT US 48 HOURS PRIOR TO YOUR TOUR DATE TO CONFIRM YOUR TOUR.
For reservation less than 24 hours of your desired tour date please call our toll free number. For LAST MINUTE reservations after our normal office hours, please use our online booking system to place your reservation then call our stated phone number and leave a voice message with your contact information and tour date. We will process your reservation and phone you in the morning when our office reopens. We look forward to touring Kilauea Volcano with you.
