Activity details
Your day begins with a comfortable pickup, followed by a scenic drive to the famous Punaluʻu Bakery. Here you can enjoy locally made pastries and a cup of Hawaiian coffee—an ideal way to fuel up for the day’s exploration.
From there, you’ll travel to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, the center of the island’s volcanic activity. Walk near lava fields, craters, and steaming vents while your guide explains how eruptions from Kīlauea and Mauna Loa have shaped the Big Island over time. You’ll also hear how Kīlauea fits into Hawaiian traditions and why this volcano remains so important today.
After a break for lunch (own expense), the tour continues to Rainbow Falls, one of Hilo’s most iconic waterfalls. You’ll have time to enjoy the view, take photos, and relax in the lush, tropical surroundings before heading back toward Kona.
Throughout the day, your guide shares insights on local plants, wildlife, legends, and the island’s changing landscape, turning the drive between stops into part of the experience.
