Swimming near wild dolphins is legal when following federal NOAA guidelines that prohibit touching, feeding, or pursuing them. Our tours operate within these regulations by swimming in areas where dolphins naturally occur while maintaining required distances. The emphasis is on respectful coexistence rather than direct interaction with these protected marine mammals.
Dolphin sightings cannot be guaranteed as we’re observing wild animals in their natural habitat. However, West Oahu’s waters are known dolphin areas with high success rates for encounters. Even without dolphin sightings, the pristine marine environment offers excellent snorkeling with tropical fish, sea turtles, and beautiful coral formations.
Participants should be comfortable swimming in open ocean conditions with snorkeling equipment. Basic swimming skills are essential as we operate in deep water environments. Life jackets and flotation devices are available for less confident swimmers. Our crew provides safety briefings and assistance throughout the experience.
We follow strict NOAA guidelines including maintaining appropriate distances, limiting group sizes, avoiding pursuit behaviors, and educating guests about respectful wildlife viewing. Our marine biologists monitor dolphin behavior and adjust activities to minimize any impact. Part of tour proceeds supports local conservation programs protecting Hawaiian marine life.
West Oahu’s waters host diverse marine life including Hawaiian green sea turtles, tropical fish species, manta rays, and seasonal humpback whales (winter months). The area’s coral reefs support colorful fish communities, and you may also encounter Hawaiian monk seals or various seabird species during your ocean adventure.
