Mokulua Islands Kayak Tour - Planning Your Adventure

  • The paddle to the Mokulua Islands is approximately 1.5 miles each way, requiring intermediate fitness and basic kayaking skills. While more challenging than nearshore tours, our guides provide thorough instruction and support throughout the journey. The open ocean environment requires comfort with deeper water and potential for moderate waves, making this tour best suited for participants with some water sports experience.

  • We typically land on Moku Nui, the larger of the two Mokulua Islands, where we spend approximately 1-2 hours exploring. The time on the island includes beach relaxation, island hiking, snorkeling in the surrounding reefs, and learning about the island’s natural and cultural significance. Weather and ocean conditions may occasionally require visiting alternative locations for safety.

  • The Mokulua Islands offer Hawaii’s most pristine offshore island experience accessible by kayak. These largely uninhabited islands feature untouched beaches, crystal-clear waters with 100+ foot visibility, and diverse marine ecosystems protected from development. The islands are also significant cultural sites in Hawaiian tradition, adding meaningful context to your adventure. The combination of challenging paddle, exclusive access, and pristine environment makes this tour truly unique.

  • The Mokulua Islands area is renowned for Hawaiian green sea turtle sightings, diverse tropical fish including butterflyfish, angelfish, and parrotfish, and seasonal seabird nesting. The pristine coral reefs support healthy marine ecosystems with excellent biodiversity. During winter months, humpback whales may be visible in the distance, and the islands serve as important seabird nesting sites for various native Hawaiian species.

  • Tours operate in favorable weather conditions with winds under 20 mph and wave heights under 3 feet. We monitor conditions closely and may modify routes or reschedule for safety. Cancellations due to weather receive full refunds or rescheduling options. We recommend booking with flexible dates during your Hawaii visit to accommodate potential weather changes, especially during winter months when conditions can be more variable.
