Popoia Island, Oahu’s smallest off-shore island, is a true gem where you’ll have the chance to encounter sea turtles, vibrant fish, and the crystal-clear waters of Kailua. During your time there, you can also enjoy kayaking and snorkeling, making for a fun and relaxing day surrounded by nature.

  • Equipment transport is made easy from the meeting point at 134B Hamakua Dr., Kailua, HI 96734 to Kailua Beach using foam pads and straps for your car.

SUP Lessons - Learning & Safety Information

  • No experience necessary! Our lessons accommodate complete beginners through intermediate paddlers looking to improve technique. We start with beach instruction covering basics like board handling, paddle technique, and getting on/off the board before entering the water. Kailua Bay’s calm, protected waters provide ideal learning conditions for building confidence and skills safely.

  • Lessons typically last 2-3 hours including beach instruction, water practice time, and exploration toward Popoia Island. We provide all equipment including SUP boards sized for different abilities, paddles, life jackets, and waterproof storage. Instruction covers safety, technique, and local marine life education throughout the comprehensive learning experience.

  • Kailua Bay offers perfect SUP learning conditions with calm, clear water, sandy bottom for easy entry, consistent gentle trade winds, and protection from ocean swells. The bay’s beauty motivates learning while providing safe environments for skill development. The proximity to Popoia Island creates exploration goals as skills improve throughout the lesson.

  • Yes! We welcome children as young as 8 years old with adult supervision and provide appropriately sized equipment. Family lessons are popular, with instruction adapted for different ages and skill levels within the same group.   • Falling is part of learning SUP! Kailua Bay’s warm, clear water makes falls comfortable and safe. We teach proper falling techniques and easy remounting methods as part of basic instruction.
