Amenities

Ohana Seating areas are positioned with unobstructed views of the main performance stage, so even the shortest keiki in your group can watch every fire knife spin without craning their necks around another table. The dedicated family zones also include extra table and floor space, meaning diaper bags, camera bags, and restless toddlers all have somewhere to go without making your neighbors miserable.
The full Hawaiian buffet is included in your ticket price and features traditional dishes like kalua pig, lomi salmon, chicken long rice, haupia, and fresh pineapple alongside more familiar options for picky eaters in the group. Open bar service — including mai tais, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options — runs throughout the evening so adults can settle in and actually relax while the kids are entertained.

Lahaina Nights: Fire, Food, and Family

The Moment the Fire Knife Dancer Takes the Stage

The torches are already lit around the lawn when the fire knife performance begins, and the first time that blade swings in a full arc with flames trailing behind it, the entire crowd goes silent. Kids freeze mid-bite. Adults lower their mai tais. For about 90 seconds, nobody moves — and then the whole place erupts.

First Plate at the Imu Buffet

The kalua pork comes out of the imu pit with that deep smoky sweetness you can only get from hours underground, and it’s the kind of thing you go back for a second plate of even when you’re already full. Pile it next to the poi, grab a chunk of haupia on the way back, and you’ve got a table that finally looks like a real Hawaiian feast.

When the Open Bar Meets a Maui Sunset Over Kaanapali

There’s a window right before the show starts when the sky behind the Westin’s lawn turns this deep coral-orange over the water, and you’ve got a cold mai tai in your hand and nowhere else to be — it hits differently than any sunset you’ve watched from a beach chair. The open bar runs the whole three hours, so you’re not rushing anything or watching the clock. By the time the torches come up and the drumming starts, you’re already exactly where you want to be.

Wailele Luau Ohana Seating — Frequently Asked Questions

  • Ohana Seating gives your group a dedicated zone with extra physical space, priority sightlines to the main stage, and a family-friendly area where children have room to move around without disrupting other guests. Regular seating places you closer to other parties at standard-sized tables, which works fine for couples or small groups but gets cramped fast when you’ve got kids, strollers, or a large family group trying to share one table.

  • For families specifically, yes — the Ohana Seating tier justifies the premium because the extra space and designated family zones make the evening genuinely relaxed rather than stressful. The production quality at the Wailele is consistently high, the food is better than the average hotel luau spread, and the Westin property itself is a beautiful setting right on the Kāʻanapali coast. If you’re a solo traveler or a couple without kids, other Maui luaus might offer similar entertainment at a lower price point.

  • The buffet includes traditional Hawaiian dishes like kalua pig roasted in an imu, lomi salmon, poi, chicken long rice, haupia (coconut pudding), and fresh tropical fruit alongside broader Polynesian-influenced options and more familiar dishes for guests who aren’t used to Hawaiian food. The spread is generous enough that you won’t leave hungry, and most guests go back for at least one second plate of the kalua pork. Vegetarian-friendly options are available, and the open bar runs throughout the entire evening.

  • Plan to arrive 30 to 45 minutes before the posted start time. Arriving early lets your family pick the best spot within your Ohana zone, participate in pre-show cultural activities like lei making and ukulele lessons, and get drinks and food settled before the performance begins. Lahaina evening traffic can be unpredictable — if you’re coming from South Maui, add at least 15-20 minutes to your estimated drive time.

  • Yes, the luau is open to all ages and the Ohana Seating is specifically designed to accommodate young children and toddlers comfortably. The dedicated family zone gives kids room to sit, stand, or wiggle without disrupting guests at other tables, and the extra space means strollers and gear don’t have to disappear for the evening. The fire knife performance does involve open flames, so it’s worth giving young children a heads-up before that portion of the show starts.

  • Parking is available at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa, though the Kāʻanapali resort area gets congested in the evenings and self-parking fills quickly during peak periods. Valet parking is typically offered at the resort for an additional fee. If your accommodation is within the Kāʻanapali resort strip, walking or using the resort shuttle is often easier than dealing with parking entirely — and it means the adults in your ohana can fully enjoy the open bar without worrying about driving after.
