Amenities

Fresh fruit, a full catered lunch, and open bar service are included throughout the day — we're talking sliced pineapple and papaya that actually smell ripe, not the styrofoam-cooler fruit you'd get on a budget snorkel boat. Drinks flow from departure to return, so there's no awkward moment where the bar cuts off mid-afternoon while you're still two hours from the harbor.
All snorkel gear is provided on board, including masks, fins, and flotation noodles for guests who want a little extra support in the water. The crew does a proper gear fitting before you hit your first snorkel site, which sounds minor until you're forty feet from the boat and realize a leaking mask ruins everything — they make sure that doesn't happen.

Special Instruction

Open Water, Your Crew, All Day

Bow Trampoline Drifting Over Blue Water

Stretch out on the mesh trampoline rigged between the Artemis’s twin hulls and look straight down through the netting at water so clear you can count the ripples on the sandy bottom twenty feet below. The catamaran’s motion out here is a slow, rhythmic rock — nothing violent, just enough sway to remind you there’s nothing between you and the open Pacific but a few inches of fiberglass.

First Entry at the Snorkel Site

The crew drops anchor and the water at your first site is the kind of blue-green that doesn’t look real until you’re actually in it, mask fogged from the warm air, fins on, tipping backward off the stern ladder. Within the first thirty seconds you’re likely over a coral head with triggerfish and wrasse threading through the branches below you — no crowd, no tour guides blowing whistles, just your group and whatever’s down there.

Lunch Hour Anchored Off the Coastline

Somewhere between the second snorkel stop and the sail back, the crew lays out a catered spread while the Artemis sits easy on glassy water with Maui’s ridge line filling the whole horizon behind your plate. The smell of salt drying on your skin mixes with whatever’s just come out of the galley, and the open bar means your drink is already refilled before you think to ask. It’s the kind of midday pause that makes you realize you’ve completely lost track of time and have zero interest in finding it again.

About the Experience
Join us on a full-day sailing adventure designed to make your vacation unforgettable. We start by discussing a variety of options for the day’s activities, ensuring everything is tailored to your preferences, the weather conditions, and the latest wildlife sightings. Then, we spend the day exploring Maalaea Bay and beyond, with opportunities to visit stunning snorkel spots like the Pali cliffs in West Maui, satellite reefs off north Kihei, or even a sunken pier off Lahaina.

Whether you want hands-on sailing instruction or prefer to relax with a cocktail while our experienced captain and crew take care of everything, this charter offers the best of both worlds. Want to try fishing? We’ll set a few trolling lures behind the boat and hope for a catch.

Our full-day sail is especially popular during whale season, allowing you to enjoy more time sailing, snorkeling, and whale watching. In the summer, the windier conditions make it the perfect time to fully experience all that Ma’alaea has to offer.

For 7-12 guests, we also offer the opportunity to charter the fleet for a unique buddy boat sail. Both boats depart at the same time, sailing side-by-side for an unforgettable adventure.

Catamaran Artemis Full Day Snorkel Sail — Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Artemis operates as a private charter, so the vessel is reserved exclusively for your group for the full seven hours. Exact passenger capacity should be confirmed at booking, but the private structure means you’re not sharing the boat with strangers — the crew is entirely focused on your party from departure to return at Maalaea Harbor.

  • The crew selects snorkel sites based on ocean conditions on the day of your charter, which is standard practice for responsible operators in Maui — fixed routes get skipped when surf or surge makes a site unsafe or poor visibility. Common areas for south Maui charters include reef systems off Molokini or along the coastline between Kihei and Makena, but your captain will brief the group on the plan once you’re underway.

  • That price is for the entire private charter, not per person — so the more people in your group, the lower the cost per head works out. Divide it across a group of eight and you’re looking at just over a thousand dollars each for a full seven-hour private sail with food, drinks, and gear all covered, which puts it in a very different category than it sounds at first glance.

  • No prior experience is required, and the crew provides a gear orientation before your first water entry. Flotation noodles are available for guests who want extra support, and the crew stays attentive in the water — this tour is rated for all ages, including kids and guests who have never snorkeled before. That said, you’ll get more out of it if you’re comfortable putting your face in the water and breathing through a tube, so a quick practice in the bathtub the night before is genuinely useful if you’re new to it.

  • Eat something light and bland before you board — crackers, toast, a banana — and avoid heavy or greasy food the morning of. Lunch is provided on board and the open bar runs all day, but an empty stomach and alcohol on a moving vessel is a combination that ends badly for some guests. The Maalaea Harbor channel is known for choppier-than-expected conditions, especially on the way out, so this isn’t overcautious advice.

  • From roughly December through April, humpback whales are extremely common in the channels around Maui, and the Artemis will absolutely slow down and allow time to observe them when they appear — the crew genuinely loves this part of the season. Outside of whale season, the waters still regularly produce spinner dolphins, sea turtles, and flying fish alongside the boat, so wildlife sightings are a realistic expectation year-round, not a guaranteed one.
