What Is E-Bike Rescue, and Should You Get It?
For an additional $10, you can add “Bike Rescue” insurance to your rental. This covers you in the event of a flat tire or electronic failure within a 7.5-mile radius of West Maui. Please note that this coverage does not apply outside the designated area, including north of Honolua Bay or south of Olowalu.
Bike rescue is a smart investment, especially if you encounter Maui’s infamous Kiawe thorns. It’s worth paying the $10 per occurrence for peace of mind. If your battery runs out of charge outside the coverage area, it won’t be covered under Bike Rescue—be sure to follow energy-saving tips for longer rides.
How Long Will the Battery Last?
Battery life can vary depending on the bike type, terrain, and rider’s weight. Non-premium e-bikes last 12–30 miles on a single charge, while premium e-bikes can go 30–60 miles. To maximize your range, use lower levels of pedal assist, especially when riding uphill.
Remember, if you run out of battery, you can still pedal your bike like a regular one. If you’re planning a full-day ride, we recommend charging your bike overnight, as it can take several hours to fully recharge. During your orientation, we’ll show you how to remove and charge the battery.
