Your adventure begins with a dive into the beautiful Kona reef before sunset, at the same spot where you’ll later experience the night manta dive. During your surface interval, you’ll have the chance to relax on the boat, enjoy the sunset, and learn about manta ray biology and behavior. As the sun sets and the ocean darkens, you’ll dive again, this time surrounded by the incredible manta rays.

The Manta Ray Night Dive feels like attending a live concert or a thrilling sports game after dark. The area is well-lit, creating an immersive experience similar to being in a pool or aquarium at night. With the guidance of our experienced Manta Guides and the presence of Kona’s famous resident manta rays, this dive promises to be a truly unforgettable experience.

All changes to existing reservations, including cancellations, must be made by phone, not via email. Our shop hours are daily from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM HST.

  • Rescheduling: Must be done at least 48 hours before your check-in time.

  • Cancellations:

    • Cancellations made by phone 48+ hours before check-in will receive a full refund.

    • Cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice will be charged the full charter price.

Wildlife Disclaimer
Mantas, dolphins, and other marine life are wild animals, and their presence is influenced by ocean conditions, seasonal patterns, feeding habits, and other unpredictable factors. While our expert team does everything possible to locate these creatures, we cannot guarantee their appearance during the tour.

Transportation
We are unable to provide transportation between local hotels, our shop, or the harbor. Guests are required to check in at the shop, and we will provide a map to the harbor. The harbor is approximately 3 miles from the shop, and guests will need to drive themselves. Taxi services are available in the Kona area, with Kona Taxicab recommended at (808) 324-4444. Uber and Lyft are also options, though driver availability may be limited.

Twilight Manta Diving Questions

  • Advanced Open Water certification is recommended due to the night diving components, though Open Water divers with night diving experience or specialty certification may participate. All divers must demonstrate comfort with low-light conditions and experience with similar diving environments.

  • The first dive occurs during twilight at a coral reef site, focusing on reef marine life and the transition from day to night underwater. The second dive is specifically at manta ray cleaning stations during peak feeding time, concentrating entirely on manta ray encounters and behavior observation.

  • The surface interval typically lasts 60-90 minutes, allowing proper decompression time while positioning for optimal manta ray encounters. During this time, you can relax on the boat, enjoy refreshments, and receive detailed briefings for the manta ray dive portion.

  • Yes! We provide high-quality primary and backup underwater lights for all night diving activities. Our professional-grade lighting systems ensure excellent visibility and safety while enhancing your ability to observe manta ray feeding behavior and marine life interactions.

  • Absolutely! We encourage underwater photography and can provide recommendations for camera settings and techniques specific to twilight and manta ray photography. Our guides can assist with lighting and positioning for optimal photo opportunities during both dives.
