Kailua-Kona offers a rare opportunity to snorkel with manta rays at night—an unforgettable adventure that’s unique to this part of the world.

At Hawaii Island & Ocean Tours, we are dedicated to providing a safe and respectful encounter with these graceful creatures. Our custom-designed light boards, placed in the water, attract zooplankton, drawing manta rays closer for a mesmerizing up-close experience.

You’ll swim just 50 feet from the boat to the lighting system, which serves as a magnet for manta rays. To keep you in the ideal position for viewing, we provide a flotation belt around your ankles, helping you stay horizontal in the water while you witness these magnificent creatures feeding and gracefully spinning beneath you.

Important: This is an active ocean tour. Participants must be confident swimmers. This experience is not suitable for first-time snorkelers unless they are strong and independent swimmers. You should feel comfortable in the ocean and be able to follow the guide’s instructions throughout the tour.

Storage Information:

Guests must be in good physical condition and able to climb a boat ladder without assistance.
This tour is not suitable for individuals with back, neck, or mobility concerns.
You should be confident in swimming and ready to handle varying ocean conditions, ranging from calm to moderately rough.
Please note, our tours are conducted in the open ocean, which is subject to natural variables, not a controlled environment.
By booking this tour, you acknowledge that you are participating at your own risk, both on the boat and in the water, regardless of the weather or ocean conditions.

If you’re not comfortable with open water or unsure about your swimming abilities, please do not book this tour (Life jackets are available for rent at check-in).

Participant Restrictions:

Guests must be able to swim confidently and independently, snorkel without assistance, and climb a boat ladder on their own.
Maximum weight limit for participants is 300 lbs due to safety and equipment limitations.

Tour duration and water time are approximate and not guaranteed. Flexibility is essential to make the most of your experience.
Timing may be impacted by:
- Ocean and weather conditions
- Manta ray activity and movement
- Boat traffic at the harbor
- Seasonal shifts in sunset times and visibility

Due to these factors, tours may run late—sometimes by an hour or more. This is common for wildlife tours, even with reputable operators.

Occasionally, check-in times may be adjusted due to:

Not meeting the minimum boat capacity
Sudden changes in weather
Seasonal sunset adjustments

We ask that you keep your evening free to accommodate any potential changes. Please stay available and ensure your phone is on and accessible throughout the day and evening of your tour, as any changes will be communicated directly via text or call.

US$99 – For guests ages 6 and up (includes snorkeling)
US$89 – For guests who are not snorkeling or are 12 years old and younger

Terms & Conditions

By completing your booking, you acknowledge and agree to the following policies:

Cancellation Policy:

Full Refund: If the tour is canceled by the operator due to weather, mechanical issues, or unforeseen circumstances, you will receive a full refund. Please contact us by phone for cancellation inquiries.
72-Hour Cancellation: You can receive a full refund if you cancel at least 72 hours before the scheduled tour.
No-Shows: No refunds will be issued for no-shows; the full price will be charged.
Groups of 6 or More: A group of six or more must cancel at least seven days before the tour date.
Replacement Tickets: If you cancel within the 72-hour policy and other guests book your tickets, you will receive a full refund.
Disputes: Disputing charges with banks or credit/debit cards is considered fraud and will be handled legally.

Boat Capacity Policy:

A minimum of 8 guests is required for a tour to operate.
If the minimum capacity is not met, you will be moved to another time or day. You will be contacted at least 30 minutes before your tour if rescheduling is necessary.

Booking Responsibility:

By booking, you agree to all policies, whether you are booking directly or through a third-party agency. It is your responsibility to review these policies, regardless of where the booking is made.

Tour Duration & Time:

The tour duration and water time are approximate. This is a wildlife tour and there are many variables such as weather, manta ray sightings, and boat traffic at the dock. Expect flexibility in timing.

Guarantee Policy:

Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. If manta rays are not seen, you can Come Again Free based on availability within an hour before the tour you wish to attend.
No Refunds will be given if manta rays are not seen during the tour.

Risk Acknowledgement:

Inherent Risks: Snorkeling and boating involve risks, including but not limited to equipment failure, sea dangers, harm from marine creatures (bites and stings), actions by other participants, entering/exiting the water, and activities on boats and docks.
By booking, you assume these risks and acknowledge that there will be no refunds for incidents related to the risks mentioned above.

What if we don’t see manta rays?
If you booked directly with us, you’re covered under our Manta Guarantee, which provides complimentary rebooking based on availability. You may request rebooking no later than one hour before your desired tour time.
Please note: Groupon tickets are not eligible for rebooking unless the optional Manta Guarantee was purchased at check-in.
Are wetsuits required?
Wetsuits are optional but highly recommended due to cooler ocean temperatures. They are available for rent at the check-in location.
Are lifejackets required?
Lifejackets are not mandatory but are available for rent at check-in. They are provided for guests who feel more comfortable wearing one during the tour.
How late can the tour run?
Tour duration is approximate and may change. Delays of up to an hour or more may occur due to factors such as wildlife movement, ocean conditions, boat traffic, and other variables. This is normal for open-ocean wildlife tours and applies to all operators.
Can you get injured or harmed?
Yes, this is a wildlife activity that takes place in the open ocean and on boats. Snorkeling and boating involve inherent risks, including but not limited to equipment failure, the dangers of the sea, potential harm from marine creatures such as bites and stings, and actions taken by fellow participants. There are also risks associated with entering and exiting the water, boarding or disembarking from boats, and activities on the docks. By booking this tour, you acknowledge and assume these risks. Please note that there will be no refunds for any incidents related to these risks.

We did the Road to Hana tour in Maui and it was amazing. We took so many beautiful pictures. Our tour guides name was Kalei, he made the tour great, he was very informative and made sure we knew when to have our camera ready.
